Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island has only 3 species of reptiles, representing only one family. Only Newfoundland and the three territories have fewer species. PEI's 3 snakes are also found in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It is interesting that snakes have been able to colonize the island but turtles have not been able to.

Snakes
    Typical Snakes (Colubrids)
Smooth Green Snake -- Couleuvre Verte -- Opheodrys vernalis
Redbelly Snake -- Couleuvre à Ventre Rouge -- Storeria occipitomaculata
Common Garter Snake -- Couleuvre Rayée -- Thamnophis sirtalis
