5a.  black above, paler below, large bright yellow or orange spots

                    Ambystoma maculatum (Spotted Salamander)

5b.  dark with yellow or tan stripe from head to tip of tail, stripe may
be irregular or broken or consisting of small connected dots, tubercles
on feet

                    Ambystoma macrodactylum (Long-toed Salamander)

5c.  various colours, dark with light spots, bars or blotches or light
with a network of dark spots, broad head with small eyes, tubercles on
soles of feet
